And It’s All Still Possible

And It’s All Still Possible

October 2nd 2026

The morning after the silence,
nothing had changed.

The sun came up.
The birds complained about the rain.
Someone somewhere opened a shop
and swept yesterday from the floor.

The great machines continued turning,
because machines do not know
when their makers have gone.
They only know the rhythm of the wheel.

For a while, we followed the old instructions.
We signed where we were told.
We built what we had been promised.
We waited for someone to tell us what came next.

But the messages stopped arriving.

No voice in the thunder.
No hand upon the lever.
No correction written in the margins
of the book we had mistaken for law.

So we began to improvise.

A woman moved a wall
because it was falling.
A child planted something
where the map said nothing should grow.

Someone repaired a broken clock
and, finding it still would not tell the truth,
learned to tell time by the shadows.

And this was how it began.

Not with rebellion.
Not with a revolution.
Not with the heavens opening
to announce a new age.

Just people
doing what needed doing.

The old temples became workshops.
The old offices became kitchens.
The old commandments became stories
told differently in every town.

Some called it the end of the world.
Others called it freedom.

Most simply called it Tuesday.

And somewhere, far above us,
the stars continued burning
with the indifference of ancient things.

Perhaps the gods were watching.
Perhaps they had forgotten.
Perhaps there had never been anyone watching at all.

It did not matter anymore.

We had learned the oldest secret
the heavens had kept from us.

A world does not need permission
to become something else.

It only needs someone
to begin.

And so we began.

Badly, at first.
Then better.
Then differently.

There were fires.
There were failures.
There were things we broke
that could never be mended.

There were nights
when we looked toward the empty sky
and wished, just once,
for someone to tell us we were doing it right.

No one answered.

So we kept going.

Because the strange thing about an abandoned world
is that it is still a world.

The wheel still turns.
The seed still opens.
The dead still leave room for the living.

And beneath the ruins,
beneath the dust,
beneath everything we thought was finished,

something was waiting.

Not a god.

Not a plan.

A possibility.
