Where Shadows Pay for Light

Where Shadows Pay for Light

November 5th 2025

The world works on balance, or so they say,
For night must follow the brightest day.
For every joy, a sorrow hides,
For every wave, the sea subsides.

They tell us "good" will cancel "bad,"
But truth's more bitter than what we've had.
The balance hums in quiet tone,
It takes what's yours to make its own.

For every laugh your heart lets through,
A tear awaits, it's waiting too.
For every dream that dares to soar,
A restless fear guards heaven's door.

You find your love too soon, too fair,
The world will whisper, "Pay your share."
It takes her hand, it breaks your rhyme,
It bends your heart to measure time.

For every gift the stars impart,
The dusk will ask to see your heart.
For every health, a hidden ache,
For every give, a cruel take.

The trees still grow, yet leaves must fall,
The river sings, yet drowns us all.
The sun must rise, yet lost are few,
The balance keeps, both false and true.

And in that dance, both sweet and mean,
Lies what we call the great unseen.
No god too kind, no fate too shy,
Just balance watching, you and I.

So laugh, and weep, and love, and lose,
For balance cares not what you choose.
The scales don't tip by mortal hand,
They only shift, as they have planned.

And when you've paid your final due,
The balance smiles, it needed you.
