Terms of Service for HackerFeed

Effective Date: April 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using HackerFeed ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

HackerFeed is a mobile client application for Hacker News (news.ycombinator.com). The App provides an interface to read, vote, comment on, and submit content to Hacker News. HackerFeed is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to Y Combinator or Hacker News.

3. Hacker News Account

  • To use write features (voting, commenting, submitting), you must have a valid Hacker News account
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Hacker News credentials
  • You agree to comply with Hacker News's own guidelines and terms of use when interacting through the App

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to:

  • Use the App in compliance with all applicable laws
  • Follow Hacker News community guidelines when posting, commenting, or voting
  • Not use the App for spam, abuse, or manipulation of Hacker News rankings
  • Not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
  • Not use automated scripts or bots through the App

5. Content

All content displayed in the App (stories, comments, user profiles) is sourced from Hacker News and belongs to their respective authors. HackerFeed:

  • Does not claim ownership of any Hacker News content
  • Is not responsible for content posted by Hacker News users
  • Does not moderate or filter Hacker News content beyond what the API provides

6. Intellectual Property

The HackerFeed application, including its design, code, and branding, is the intellectual property of Kumar Anirudha. All rights reserved. "Hacker News" is a trademark of Y Combinator.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THE ACCURACY OR RELIABILITY OF CONTENT SOURCED FROM HACKER NEWS.

8. Limitation of Liability

IN NO EVENT SHALL THE DEVELOPERS OF HACKERFEED BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, ACCOUNT SUSPENSION ON HACKER NEWS, OR ANY OTHER LOSSES.

9. Service Availability

HackerFeed depends on the Hacker News API and website. We are not responsible for:

  • Downtime or changes to the Hacker News API
  • Changes to Hacker News that may affect App functionality
  • Rate limiting or access restrictions imposed by Hacker News

10. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
