CyberTab ("the Extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the Extension handles your data and what information it collects (or does not collect).
Core Privacy Principle
CyberTab is designed with privacy-by-default. The Extension operates entirely offline and does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data with external servers or third parties.
What Data We Collect
Short Answer: Minimal usage analytics only.
CyberTab collects minimal, non-personally-identifiable analytics data through Google Analytics. The Extension:
Does not track your search queries or browsing habits
Does not create any user profiles
Does not require account creation or login
Does not sell or share your data with third parties
Collects only basic usage metrics (feature usage, extension interactions)
Local Data Storage
All user data is stored exclusively on your local device using your browser's localStorage. This data includes:
1. Quick Notes
Notes you create are stored locally on your device
Only you can access them
2. Todo Items
Your to-do list entries are stored locally on your device
No synchronization with external services
3. Settings & Preferences
Your background preferences
Search engine selection
Custom background URLs
Display preferences
All of this data remains under your complete control on your device.
Data Deletion
You can delete all CyberTab data at any time by:
Opening the browser's Developer Tools (F12 or right-click → Inspect)
Going to the Application tab
Selecting Storage → Local Storage → the newtab page
Deleting the entries for cybertab_todos and cybertab_settings
Alternatively, clearing your browser's local storage will remove all CyberTab data.
Permissions
CyberTab requires minimal permissions to function:
Search Permission
Allows the Extension to use Chrome's built-in search functionality
Does not access your search history
Does not send queries to any external service
New Tab Override
Allows the Extension to replace the default new tab page
Does not monitor your navigation
Google Analytics
CyberTab uses Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage data. This helps us understand:
Google Analytics - For anonymous usage metrics (see above)
External Resources
CyberTab supports custom background URLs that you provide. If you add a custom background image:
Your browser fetches the image directly from the URL you specify
CyberTab does not process or store the URL
The image provider may receive your IP address and User-Agent (standard HTTP behavior)
CyberTab has no control over what information the external image host collects.
Search Engine Privacy
When you use the Smart Search Widget:
Your search queries are sent directly to your selected search engine (Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing, or Yahoo)
CyberTab does not intercept, log, or store these queries
CyberTab does not modify your search queries
Your search privacy depends on your chosen search engine's privacy policy
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. Any changes will be reflected in this document with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the Extension constitutes acceptance of any changes.
